A380, Morning Seafog and locked myself out of the car - story of my life.

November 30th, 2006 by hangingpixels

Hi there,

The day begins when I work up at 4am to try to go out to Bronte Beach to shoot. By the time I was ready to leave was about 4:30am, the sun had already start to poke through the horizon - too late for the sunrise shot. After checking my personally weather guide (M.E.), it was hazy and foggy, so I headed for the Harbour Bridge. There was fog but not enough (at least on the Western side anyway). So I start shooting Opera House, again.

No that much fog in the Quay either, but on the East Side, it was so think that you can not see anything behind it….”there has got to be some interesting thing to shoot on the other side…” So I drove to Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair. From here, I could not see the Opera House!!!! or the bridge.

There was fog and there were those famous white sails….. I have never seen sea fog so thick. Interesting enough, Sydney has fog alarm system install about the harbour. It makes noise to warn ships where the shore lines are.

Done all the shooting around 9:30am, haircut at 10:30, then off the say good bye to the mighty Airbus A380 at the Airport. This is where I lock myself out of the car….first time ever…and hopefully the last. “Shit, my house key is with the car key, in the booth of the car……arrrr”. Lucky a good mate of my “ED” was there. Thinking of options to get my key back:

1. NRMA - for a call out, one need to join $149 + $149 for an immediate call out service OR wait 48 hours then it’s free…..”Yeah right!!! Leave the car near the control tower? Police will charge me for terriorist act/bomb scares!!!”

2. Break the window, get this….side window is $350, back-side window is $400 but the surprise was the windscreen - $300?….beats me on the pricing.

3. Go home and look for the key that I don’t know where it is. - We decided on this option first.
Spent the later half of the day running around the city, from getting a key to my house from my partner, came back home to turn the house upside down looking for a spare car key. Just as I told Ed to go back to work, he left, and then I found the bloody key!!!!.

Taxi back to the airport, I told him the story about my lock out, photographing the A380. He said that he dropped some people off the check out the plane earlier that morning too…..how’s that for a coincidence!!!!

So this could be sum up in the famous Master Card Advert:

Phone calls to several special no., $50

Lunch, $15

Taxi back to the airport, $25 (and could have had to pay for a new windscreen, $300)
Watching the A380 flying of in the distance - PRICELESS (for everything else there’s Master Card)….

I did actually use a Master Card for the taxi back to get my car….

Arrr…what a day!!!
